A DeBerry woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Thursday for the 2015 murder of a Waskom man.
According to KMHT in Marshall, Marilyn Marche Kirkland, 26, of Deberry, plead guilty earlier this week to the December 2015 murder of Waskom resident Clinton Wayne Saizon. Saizon was found dead at his mobile home by a family member after being shot one time. Kirkland was arrested a few days later by Waskom Police for the murder.
Kirkland says she and Saizon were shooting up meth and reading the bible on her phone, when they decided one of them needed to be sacrificed. She claims her drug induced state led her to shooting Saizon.
The jury deliberated less than two hours on Thursday before returning the sentence. Kirkland was facing a punishment of 5 to 99 years in prison.
