Janette Pierce


Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home announces a graveside service for Janette Pierce, 94, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at New Prospect Cemetery near Beckville with Bro. Dennis Landtroop officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mrs. Pierce passed away on Sunday morning, January 1, 2023, in Carthage.

Mrs. Pierce is survived by her grandson, Kristopher Henley and wife Kristi of Austin and her niece, Darlene Bullard.

Sharon Ivey

Memorial service for Mrs. Sharon Ivey. 74 of Carthage, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Carthage with Rev. Kevin Otto officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. A time of visitation will be held from 10;00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the memorial service.
Mrs. Sharon Ivey was born on Saturday, October 23, 1948, in Henderson, Texas to her parents, Marty B Thurman and Nelwyn Parker Thurman. She passed this life on Thursday evening, December 8, 2022, in Carthage, Texas.
Upon graduating high school, she attended SFA and obtained her master's in teaching at Texas Tech University, and she also met the love of her life, Terry Ivey during her time there. She went on to marry Terry in 1973, and he preceded her in death in 1985 after being married for only 12 years.
Ivey was a schoolteacher for many years teaching at Houston ISD, Marshall ISD, Carthage ISD, Beckville ISD, and she also taught the GED program at Panola College. During the time she spent as a teacher, she taught countless students and influenced many of them in their education. She loved to spend her time as a volunteer at the AYEP program in Carthage. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, and a member of the Busy Quilters Guild and the Panola Squares Quilt Club.
She was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, where she loved to teach Sunday School. She worked as a reporter/personality for KGAS Radio for many years as well.
Mrs. Ivey valued her family, and her friendships she had with many. She loved everyone equally and unconditionally. She was an avid activist for equal rights and believed in equality for all.
One thing she loved to say was "All Things Texas Tech", which is where she met her husband.
Ivey is survived by her loving daughter, Erin Oliver, and husband Benjamin; grandchildren, Ivey, and Rose Oliver; special cousins, Donna Parker Ayers Singleton and her family, Cara Beth Parker Morris and her family, Elaine Parker McPherson and husband Rick and their family, Penny Lowrey and family, Ray McPherson and family and Bob McPherson and family; brother, Marty Duane Thurman and wife Grace, their children, Liza Thurman Woodfin and husband Shane and family; April Thurman Ballard and husband Matt.
She is preceded in death by Crawford Parker Jr, Beth Harris Parker, Patricia Thurman, Ward McPherson, and Duane Parker.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hawthorn Funeral Home.
